Dudhsagar Falls (literally Sea of Milk ) is a four-tiered waterfall located on the Mandovi River in the border of the Indian states of Goa and Karnataka. It is 60 km from Panaji by road and is located on the Madgaon-Belgaum rail route about 46 km east of Madgaon and 80 km south of Belgaum. Dudhsagar Falls is among India's tallest waterfalls with a height of 310 m (1017 feet) and an average width of 30 mtrs (100 feet). The falls is located in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park among the Western Ghats. The waterfall forms the border between Karnataka and Goa states. The area is surrounded by a deciduous forests with a rich biodiversity. The falls are not particularly spectacular during the dry season but during the monsoon season however, the falls are fed by rains and form a huge force of water. Andhar means Darkness and Ban stand for the dense jungle, so the word Andharban literally means The Dense Dark Forest. The intimidating factor of this 13km long trek has to be the hardcore jungle cover over your head. A major portion of this trek route involves walking through this denseness.
The Monsoon goes down a bit & it makes us way to an amazing place, Kataldhar Waterfall. The name literally means water fall of from a rock cliff. This 350 feet waterfall tests your gut & gives a lot of happiness once we are done with this adventure activity. The sense of victory over the fears we have... it is one of a kind experience.
There was a time when Shivaji Maharaj and his faithful army walked over a distance of 47km in almost 20 Hrs while it was raining cats and dogs and while enemy was chasing and they had to fight.Veer Baji Prabhu Deshpande became martyr during this war. Today the things might not be as hard as that but we can walk on same route and relive our history and pay them a tribute.
